Newtown AYLUS Volunteers at FabLab Summer Camp (18th)

On Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, members of the Newtown Branch of Aylus volunteered at Fablab from 11:45 to 4:15. Fablab provides a summer camp that lets elementary school kids learn more about the future and the technology they will face. This week, the primary goals were geared toward Digital Art: Create Your Masterpiece and LEGO & Robotics Adventure, where volunteers were tasked with assisting kids with any challenges they faced while also allowing them to find their own path to a solution.
Our two volunteers began at 11:45 by interacting with the kids and getting to know each one during their “free exploration”. As lunchtime soon began, campers ate the lunches they had brought from home. Following lunch, the kids were split into two groups, one that focused on digital art using Procreate on iPads and another group working on LEGO and robotics. Moiz Kothawala stayed with the digital art students and assisted them with any technological issues and questions, while also providing them with creative ideas. On the other hand, Aiden Ye supervised the LEGO and robotics students, helping them put together builds and explore different ways to improve their creations. Near the end, volunteers organized materials, tidied the workspace, and ensured the room was ready for the next day.
Overall, the event was a major success, with students being happy with the digital artwork and LEGO creations they completed, with the two volunteers assisting the kids with whatever challenges they had.
Members who participated were Moiz Kothawala (Lead) and Aiden Ye, each for 4h 30min.
