During the 9th of August, 2025, which is a Saturday, AYLUS Oakland Gardens Members performed in a concert for seniors from 1:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. as their 185 event. The nursing home they went t o perform at was Forest View Center.
To start off the event, Ioklee, Ioknor, Iokson, and Karen used the violin, viola, cello, and the flute. With these instruments, they played William Tell Overture by Rossini. The way they played the song was amazing, as you could tell they put a lot of practice into it. When they finished that song, Selina played Old MacDonald Had a Farm and a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star variation on the piano. Selena is our youngest member and has only just started piano a few months ago. Next up, Sophia Li used the flute to play Salut d’ Amour by Elgar and Gavotte by Gossec. Another one of our young members, Iokting, then played Our Detective Agency and Green Frog Hot on the piano. Following her, Angels’ Voices by Burgmuller was played on the piano by Ryan. This song really felt like an angel’s voice. With a change to pop music, Vicki played I Wanna Dance With Somebody on the trumpet. Played with large amounts of skill, New Kid No.9 was then played on the piano by Ashlee. After Ashlee, Karis played Azery Rhapsody, III Dilbazi Horses by A Peskanov on the piano. Following this amazing performance, Matthew played My Heart Will Go On, from the Titanic movie, on the violin. Sophia You then played Moonlight Sonata First Movement by Beethoven on the piano. Stephanie played La Donna é Mobile from Opera “Rigoletto” by Verdi and Habanera from Opera “Carmen” by Bizet on the flute. She put a lot of effort into her music! Martin then played The Interstellar Experience on the piano. The way he played it made it sound like we were really in space! After Martin, Zhengyilan Fang used the flute to play Spirited Away: Always With Me. Jason then played La Campanella by F. Liszt. All of the seniors were impressed by this song, as he played it flawlessly from memory. Our final performance was Ioknor, Ioklee, Iokson, and Karen playing the violin, viola, cello, and flute again. This time, they played La Vie En Rose by E. Piaf & C. Chaffee, Can’t Help Falling In Love by G. Weiss & L. Creator, and God Bless America by I. Berlin. This was an amazing end to our performances.
From the start of the event, there were a lot of seniors already waiting for us. All of them seemed very excited, as concerts do not happen often there. Our members really tried their best in these performances, and as a result, the seniors loved them. Some of the seniors even started dancing a bit to the music. One senior even asked if we could play a song that they requested! Unfortunately, we couldn’t, as we didn’t know how to play that song. However, we said that we would instead try to play it when we came back. We would like to thank Marlene and Arlene for helping us set up for the performance. We would also like to thank Eunice Suriel for providing us with an opportunity to play for these seniors. Finally, we would like to thank the seniors for enjoying the songs, as our members put a lot of hard work and effort into playing and practicing them.
