AYLUS Frisco & Plano Branch Volunteering at Russell Creek Park on June 21st, 2025

Reported by: Sophia Li Posted by: Jenny Lin

On the evening of June 21, 2025, seven members of our Frisco Plano branch volunteered at Russell Creek Playground in Plano for a fundraising event. When I arrived, I noticed the parking lot was much emptier than during our previous sales event, and I felt a little worried. The park was quiet, with only a few visitors around.

Despite the slow start, we set up our table and began selling boba tea and cotton candy to families and parkgoers enjoying the weekend. Strong winds made it difficult to make cotton candy, so we creatively used the lid of a storage box to block the wind and keep things running.

In addition to handling sales, our promotional team walked around the park to promote our products and share information about our cause. They explained to visitors that all proceeds would go toward supporting cancer patients at the Children’s Hospital in Plano.

Unfortunately, during the event, a board was blown loose by the wind and struck one of our volunteers’ mother, causing an injury. We are grateful for her patience and support during the incident.

As we were preparing to close for the evening, a number of people arrived and made last-minute purchases. We were happy to end the event on a positive note.
