On Friday, July 11, 2025, members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS dedicated their time from 11:45 AM to 4:15 PM volunteering at the FabLab Center. FabLab is a STEAM learning center where children and youth of all ages are able to explore various technologies and skills related to science, engineering, art, and math.
Our two volunteers began the afternoon getting to know everyone while they ate their lunch before going on a walk around the facility. During the walk, we kept the students’ safe from the incoming cars and talked about safety. After coming back from the walk, the two volunteers were instructed to help print out all of the students’ designs onto bags to give out to them while the students had free time to build, explore, and play with robots. After finishing all the designs on the printing press, the volunteers were told to plug in all of the devices to charge over the weekend.
The event was very successful, with students being satisfied with their own creations and progress. They also received enthusiastic help from our volunteers whenever there was a concern or technical issue.
Members who participated were Ryan He (Event Leader) and Ryan Yuan, both for 4.5 hours.
