On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS dedicated their time from 11:45 AM to 4:15 PM volunteering at the FabLab Center (One Ivybrook Blvd. Ste 190, Warminster, PA). FabLab is a STEAM learning center where children and youth of all ages are able to explore various technologies and skills related to science, engineering, art, and math. Today, the FabLab ran a summer camp exploring the science and technology of sports and music.
2 volunteers helped a group of around 20 students utilize Tinkercad, a 3-D modelling software, to create their own custom keychains. We helped the students log into their accounts, save their work, and resolved any issues that the students had while working on their projects. Our volunteers ensured that each student ended with a design that they were satisfied with. After the students finished with their designs, our volunteers went in and fixed their designs to ensure that there would be no printing errors when put into the 3-D printer. In addition, our volunteers helped set up xylophone robots for the students to create their own music and cleaned up the area afterwards.
The event was very successful, with students being satisfied with their own creations and progress. The students all built upon their artistic skills and learned how to navigate a complex modeling software. They also received enthusiastic help from our volunteers whenever there was a concern or technical issue.
Members who participated were Justin Peng (Event Leader) and Ryan He, both for 4.5 hours.
