On Thursday, July 3rd, starting from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers, located at 15 Hill Street, Glen Cove, NY. NOSH Delivers is a nonprofit food pantry organization, founded in March of 2020. This organization is dedicated to helping provide a place for numerous local families or people that struggle with food insecurities to choose and pick out their own groceries they may need. They also deliver to those families who don’t have the ability to travel all the way.
At Nosh’s food pantry, we helped guide people and families to different food options that were available at the time. Some of these options included foods such as bread, a variety of drinks, canned food, snacks, and fresh produce. Furthermore, we helped other volunteers unload foods from piles of boxes to be put into many plastic bags for distribution later on. When helping people choose what foods they would like to take home at the produce section, we made sure to remove any produce that was unfit for consumption such as moldy, broken or expired foods. When the event started to end, we helped clean up the place and organized cardboard boxes and foods in preparation for another event the next day.
Watching all the families and people with a grateful and happy mood with their groceries was truly an amazing experience. We were honored to help volunteer alongside NOSH to help hand out groceries to families and people to those who were in need. Volunteering with NOSH also helped motivate us to continue to help people in our community.
