AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families Through NOSH Delivers! Food Pantry (82nd) on June 30th, 2025

On Monday June 30th, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered with NOSH Delivers. NOSH Delivers is a food pantry in Glen Cove whose goal is to provide food to families in need.

When we got there, we first began making NOSH bags. We filled the bags with an assortment of foods including tuna, applesauce, rice, and more. We each grabbed a bag and moved down the table, picking up and putting in items as we walked. If we ran out of items, we would place the bags in a separate area and wait until more items came in. Afterwards, we helped sort many boxes full of different items to make it easier to categorize and store them. Each box contained the same items such as spaghetti, canned tuna and chicken, rice, and more.

In the end, we were able to get through half of the boxes before a massive delivery came in from Costco. Finally, we picked out bad foods from the delivery and sorted the good fruits into boxes to be given out to families. We had to make sure to throw out the garbage regularly so that the bags didn’t get too heavy. We then sorted a variety of fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, bananas, mangos, grapes, and peppers. It was very insightful to see what bad foods look and feel like.

This experience showed us how teamwork and communication can help the community. Many of the obstacles we faced today, such as running out of items or finding which boxes were where, were solved through the use of teamwork and communication. We look forward to returning to help NOSH in the future.
