On Thursday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, members of the Aylus Roslyn Branch volunteered at NOSH Delivers. NOSH is a food pantry helping families in need by providing them with extra groceries and food.
When we got there, our first task was to help out in the farmers market and to make NOSH bags. We were short staffed today so we had to use our volunteers carefully.
Our group got split up where 3 people helped make the NOSH bags and one helped out in the farmers market. NOSH bags are premade bags that are weekly food deliveries to families in need. These bags are full of groceries like potatoes, lettuce, and other groceries. These NOSH bags are delivered to those in need without proper means of transportation such as the elderly, the disabled, or to parents.
In the farmers market, we helped the volunteers there restock the shelves and hand out food like zucchini, dairy products, bread, and organic fruits and vegetables. This farmers market allowed families and people in need to be able to access their needed groceries for the week.
After we finished the NOSH bags, we made new NOSH bags. These bags contained a different assortment of items to deliver a variety of foods every week. After making these bags, we cleaned up the area we worked at to keep the place clean.
After finishing up these NOSH bags, we started taking apart boxes and making them into sheets of cardboard. At first, this was challenging since we needed to learn how to unfold them, but in the end, we finished.
Nearing the end, we kept the shelves stocked so those who come tomorrow don’t have to restock the shelves. We also helped set up the next event that was happening at the pantry, a book club. Setting up chairs and helping the staff get prepared.
Working with NOSH Deliveries we had a great experience to see how we can help the community with our actions. We would definitely come back to volunteer again from this experience.
