On June 17, volunteers launched a new science series for the SMILE Summer Program, focusing on hands-on experiments. They began by introducing the concepts of solids, liquids, and gases through a simple reaction between baking soda and vinegar. Students participated in the experiment, observing how the reaction produced gas that inflated balloons. Volunteers also explained practical household uses of baking soda, such as for baking and cleaning, to help students build everyday life skills. In addition, volunteers supported the skills and Chinese classes led by the center’s staff.
Volunteers:
Leads: Brendon Jiang (7.5 hrs), Eddie Fu (5.5 hrs)
Assistant Instructors (6 hrs): Sarah Zhang, Selena Zhang
Parent on duty (1 hr): Carol Li (Aila Jiang)
