On May 10th, 9 AYLUS volunteers (many of them new members) helped to set up and run our fundraising stand in Russell Creek Park. Our items included $3 ice cream floats, $3 cotton candy, and $4 boba tea. Additionally there was a singular scoop of ice cream for $1 and iced water for $2. Many volunteers that day were first learning how to make these for the first time, however, they gave it their best effort and had to workshop solutions to small inconveniences. For example, the ice cream scooper broke, and we had to use a spoon to scoop ice cream out of it. We had all separated into roles, but sometimes switched to go advertise around the park instead. A 6th grader was in charge of cotton candy, and he was actually pretty good at it! Cotton candy and boba tea were fairly popular, even the ice cream floats got their time of day! One particular person wanted a scoop of ice cream.. on their boba tea! The event lasted from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, and after a long day of working hard, everyone helped pack the materials for use next time.
