On April 27, 2025, Newtown AYLUS members volunteered at the Sunrise Senior home of Lower Makefield (631 Stony Hill Rd, Morrisville, PA 19067). Our members helped ensure that the seniors living there had a satisfactory bingo event by addressing all of their inconveniences and helping clean up.
The volunteers actively took the initiative to solve the problems that they encountered, without extra prompting. For example, our members would actively carry over a chair for a new Bingo player who arrived at a later time, as well as provide the senior with the necessary bingo chips and board. Any time items were dropped by the seniors, our volunteers quickly aided them in recovering the item. In addition, AYLUS members helped certain seniors who had trouble hearing or seeing in the Bingo games by repeating the number called for them and pointing to the designated spot.
The efforts of our volunteers allowed the seniors to play much more Bingo games than they would have otherwise, because we helped speed-up the reset process every round. The seniors expressed a lot of gratitude to our volunteers, and stated that we did a “wonderful job” after the end of the event. This event not only increased satisfaction for the seniors, but also advanced the skills of empathy and patience within the volunteer members.
Members who participated were Justin Peng (Event leader) and Ivan Lee, both of which contributed 1 hour to make this possible.
