On Friday, April 11th, 4:30-5:30pm, a group of volunteers from the Great Neck Branch grouped together and met at firefighter park to help special needs kids through sports.
Yucheng Fu, Cody Ngo, Baiyu Chen quickly met up with our friend Jack and started playing soccer with him. We ran across the sidewalk, around the swings and saw our next destination: the playground. The volunteers accompanied Jack to play some lighthearted tag around slides. Raymond joined the fun a few minutes later. That day is a rainy one, patches of water left hint for a hefty rainfall. Yet nonetheless, the volunteers chose to play with Jack despite the possibility of slipping. We walked, holding the rails, being careful of our every step and slowly but surely brought smiles to Jack’s face. We ended the session by sitting on the benches savoring the fun we shared. Even though Jack is still isolating himself from the rest of the volunteers, we shared a warm hug. I can’t imagine the fun we’re gonna have next session!
