On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the members of the Roslyn Aylus Branch volunteered at NOSH Delivers! Food Pantry from 12 P.M to 4 P.M. NOSH Deliver’s main objective is to provide food and essential items to the community of North Shore, especially during holidays such as St. Patrick’s day.
As volunteers, we typically assist with various tasks to support NOSH’s mission of fighting food insecurity in the community. However, with St. Patrick’s day right around the corner, we organized an activity to decorate hearts and shamrocks with other volunteers, especially the younger ones. Eventually, these will be donated to elderly centers and other such places. We hope to bring joy to everyone on this holiday, and we wanted to involve kids in fun activities. We were not able to personally deliver our finished products, but we still knew that our work was very meaningful, even if it brings joy to just one person. In addition, it was heartwarming to see how excited and eager the younger volunteers were to express themselves through art.
One surprising moment during our shift was the there were simply so many things happening at once, so many kids to watch over, and so many blank canvases to fill. We had successfully overcome this obstacle by dividing tasks among ourselves and maintaining clear communication with the staff at Nosh.
Volunteering at NOSH required skills such as organization, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. It also called upon our compassion and a willingness to engage positively with members of the community. Especially since on this day there were a lot of children, we had to be mindful of our behavior and body language to seem welcoming and encourage kids to be active.
Through this experience, we gained a deeper understanding of community building and the importance of programs like NOSH that strive to bring joy to everyone. Volunteering reminded us of the value of giving back and inspired us to continue supporting initiatives that help those in need. Moving forward, we hope to participate in similar efforts to address similar issues and promote kindness in our community.
