Syosset AYLUS Organization Attends Long Island Native Plant Initiative To Help Volunteer On 02/22/25

On February 22nd, the Syosset AYLUS organization attended the Long Island Native Plant Initiative to volunteer. On that day, we primarily worked on sifting seeds, watering soil, and separating containers for use with the soil as a placement. We sifted seeds because the greenhouse had extra plants that needed to be cleaned out. We also opened more soil bags onto a table, using water and fertilizers to ensure the soil remained healthy for the plants. Once the cold weather passes, we will use the soil to plant even more native plants in the greenhouse. For now, we had to transport the completed soil into a nursery where it would be maintained under an irrigation system that constantly sprays water when necessary. We also had another group of AYLUS members working at a different table, primarily focused on sorting the correct seeds and placing them in the correct pouches, with corresponding stickers. Overall, the Syosset AYLUS organization was very successful in helping the Long Island Native Plant Initiative by accomplishing various tasks.
