On Saturday, February 1st, 2025 Aylus Roslyn volunteers went to Levittown to volunteer at a residential house. Prior to this day we had already been to this residential home a few times so each resident had remembered us and were very excited to see us!
When we arrived we greeted everyone and everyone was so happy to see us. Our first activity was making chocolate covered strawberries. We started out by letting each resident break pieces of milk chocolate into tiny pieces to make it easier to melt. While everyone was patiently waiting for the chocolate to melt, we started to peel off the ends of the strawberries. The chocolate had melted simultaneously as we had finished peeling the ends of the strawberries. Our next step was to dip each strawberry into the chocolate. The residents helped us by swirling each strawberry into the chocolate and they found it very fun to turn the strawberries inside such a smooth liquid. We froze the strawberries after they were all done.
While waiting for the chocolate strawberries to finish solidifying, we created Valentine cards since it is almost that time of the year! Each resident had somebody in mind that they wanted to give their card to so it was very fun for them to put candies into small bags attached to their card! We had ran out of the double sided tape so we improvised and created our own version of double sided tape and it worked just as well!
After we finished making valentine cards for the resident’s loved ones we played bingo. Bingo was really fun for each resident because they had all won once during the time period that we had played.
At the end of our bingo games the chocolate strawberries were about finished so we finished the last round and feasted on the delicious chocolate strawberries. The residents enjoyed them and didn’t think it was too sweet which was good because too much sugar is bad for everyone.
Although there were only 2 volunteers we still made sure that we did the best we could to help out and bring happiness to every single resident while we were around! After we finished eating we said our goodbyes and wished everyone a happy valentines day! We had so much fun with the residents and we hope to come back soon!
