AYLUS Roslyn Helps the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County at the Bayville Care Center (13th) on January 19th, 2025

On January 19th, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, members of the AYLUS Roslyn Branch visited the Bayville Care Center, also known as CP Bayville, under the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County. CP Nassau offers programs for people with disabilities helping them reach greater independence. CP Bayville is one of CP Nassaus Intermediate Care Facilities and is home of about 50 individuals. Our goal at Bayville is to entertain the residents to end off their week on a fun note.

Volunteers played many games with the residents including axe and dart throwing, connect four, fruit and vegetables bingo, giant bowling, Jeopardy, a magnetic fishing game, and many other various activities. Residents could choose to participate in the games or they could do arts and crafts. The arts and crafts was a winter themed ornament with penguins and pom-poms on it. Some residents also did coloring pages. Volunteers would assist residents to adapt activities, and making sure they were accessible for everyone while still having the full participation of residents.

Our time with the residents was very meaningful. We learned about the unique preferences and interests of each resident by spending quality time with them. Our interactions and experiences with the residents deepens our understanding our ability to connect with more people. We hope we will have many more opportunities and experiences like these in the future.

Members who participated include (3 hours): Maxim Li, Kacie Li, Michael Zhang, Zihan Wang, Austin Guo, Leah Chan, Brooke Zheng
