Reported by Jessica Lu :
On January 20th, 2025, Murrieta AYLUS members helped their local food bank.
Since members finally had a day off from school, they decided to go help the food bank. When members arrived, they realized that they were the only volunteers there which meant they needed to work extra hard to make sure they got everything completed in time. Members helped unload the food trucks and separated the items by different food categories, ie., deli, dairy, meats, etc. Then they weighed the carts and worked as a pair in order to lift the heavy boxes. Afterward, members were asked to restack/reorganize the milk boxes since the food truck driver needed their crates back. After changing gloves, members went to help unload another food truck that arrived. For the last hour, members were given multiple boxes of produce to sort through. The one that took the longest was the crate of tomatillo tomatoes, which members had to peel and go through each one before putting them into the crates. While the pair of members were sorting, the other members mopped the floors and cleaned the tables down. The people in charge of the food bank praised members for their efficiency and hard work and wished them well in school. They also gave members a box of Costco chicken bakes to take home.
