Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) promotes Youth Tutoring programs among its members, no matter where their students live, as long as they need help. Face to face tutoring is convenient, while online tutoring has become more popular, thanks to the help of internet and communication tools.
GPA member Cathy Li recently reached out to a middle school in Liangshan, Sichuan, China, to help its students develop a higher level of English speaking and understanding. On Saturdays, March 23rd (10-11 pm, 1 hour) and March 30th, 2019 (10-11 pm, 1 hour), Cathy taught a left-behind student named Jikeshibu, and at the beginning of each class, they would talk about their day and interesting things that happened throughout the past week.
Besides teaching the students english, Cathy’s outreach online tutoring also gave Liangshan students a little break from the hectics of their academic lives. Weekly lesson reading passages as guidelines are created, and the reading passages come in two different reading levels per week in order to address students with different english abilities. Cathy felt fortunate to be able to help someone thousands mile away from her.
Keep up your great work, Cathy Li!
