On October 5, 2024, As a member of the Aylus, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, helping organize donated clothes for individuals facing homelessness as winter approaches. It was a rewarding experience that gave me a deeper understanding of these individuals’ challenges during the colder months.
I worked alongside other volunteers by sorting through donations and folding winter jackets, pants, and hats. Making sure everything was organized by size and type. The goal was to ensure that those in need would have easy access to warm clothing, essential for surviving the harsh winter.
Through this experience, I learned how crucial community efforts are in supporting the less fortunate. It made me more aware of how small actions, like organizing clothing donations, can make a big difference in someone’s life. I also gained an appreciation for the importance of empathy and compassion as I witnessed how a collective effort can offer satisfaction and comfort to people facing difficult circumstances.
