From 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, the Bellaire Branch of AYLUS volunteered at the Houston Food Bank (535 Portwall St, Houston, TX 77029).
The Houston Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides food and other essentials to people in need with a network of more than 1,600 community partners. In 2024, the organization provided 140 million nutritious meals for 18 southeast Texas counties and distributed 22 million meals to kids through its various programs.
During this event, members of the AYLUS Bellaire Branch worked in the warehouse of the food bank to make bags of turnips. Each bag was filled with 5 pounds of turnips and then packed into pallets for distribution. In total, 2,600 bags of turnips were created during the entire shift, resulting in 13,000 pounds of food equivalent to 10,833 meals. Volunteers also helped to clean up the warehouse after the shift concluded.
2 AYLUS volunteers participated in this event (11/3, 3 hours): Selina Yuan and Isabel Li.
