Today on Sunday, October 20, AYLUS volunteered at Steppingstone Park for the Scarecrow Festival. This event was hosted by the Great Neck Park District, and was the second fall related event held this year, the previous one being the Harvest Festival. There were two shifts of volunteers, one in the morning (9-12) and one in the afternoon (12-3). Both groups of volunteers did the same work. Some helped out at the snack station, handing out tasty fall snacks to people. These included apple cider donuts, apple cider, and hot chocolate. Others handed out materials to make the scarecrows, such as pantyhoses to make the scarecrows heads and string to tie the scarecrow together. Other volunteers helped run the craft tables. There were many activities for the children, including mini wheelbarrows and tractors, and different types of crafts. We volunteers watched over everything, and made sure it all went smoothly.
Overall, it was a fun experience and there was a very nice fall spirit in the air.
