On September 29, 2024 The AYLUS Roslyn Branch volunteered at The Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island’s Chinese School From 1:30 PM to 5 PM. The Teacher Assistants helped the teachers and the students reduce stress and assisting the students with classwork and learning.
As teacher assistants, our job is to give as as much support as we can to the students about their learning,critical thinking, solving problems and learning about the Chinese Culture. As The Teacher Assistants, When we stepped into the class we immediately went to work. First thing we did was we checked if all the students were here as well as give students comfort if they were anxious and stressed if there parents weren’t here. As when the students were calmed down, The teacher would start the lesson. We were there to assist the teacher by giving the students classwork, distributing papers, going to the lobby to get copies of documents and taking the students to the bathroom. We were there to help teachers make their jobs less stressful. After going through the lesson the teachers will give the students a break time. Therefore, TA would line the students up to go the bathroom and would get coupons to give them snacks and not stress about work for a short amount of period. Today was the first week that the Chinese School gave students physical classes. The classes were Martial Arts,Music,Dance,Singing and other physical classes that the Chinese School offered. We had teachers teaching them about physical activities and other arts as well as a lot of exercise. The TA’s were there to make sure they behave and follow along with the teacher.
Overall, Being A Teacher Assistance can be very exhausting/stressful experience. Such as dealing with children that goes out of control which can make things uneasy to make the class calm down. However, It’s also important to interact with the students so you could calm whatever the situation could be. Although being a TA can be demanding it teaches you how to be gentle,calm,polite and using time wisely. It can be a difficult time yet fulfilling experience.
