AYLUS Roslyn Volunteers at the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County’s Group Home (25th) on September 21th, 2024

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, we went to Bethpage to assist citizens with cerebral palsy. We arrived at 1 PM and stayed till 4 PM. When we arrived we started the day off by making Rice Krispie treats. The citizens helped us by pouring the ingredients into a bowl. After that, they helped melt the butter and marshmallows. Then we mixed everything together, poured everything onto a tray, and stuffed it into the fridge to solidify. The citizens really enjoyed mixing all the ingredients and melting the butter and marshmallows. While we were waiting for the Rice Krispie treats to solidify we started to create bracelets using clay. The citizens kneaded the clay into tiny spheres and then we put them into the oven to bake. While the clay was baking the Rice Krispie treats finished solidifying. We all had a quick and delicious snack and we got right back to having fun. After the clay was done baking we threaded the clay balls onto a string along with charms. We made sure to tie the string so it could fit onto each citizen’s wrist. Following the previous activity, we helped the citizens create birthday cards for themselves or for their family and friends. They decorated their cards with lots of love. Our last activity of the day was coloring handbags. The handbags had different designs on them and we helped the citizens decorate them with their favorite colors. Since it was time to go we said our goodbyes. The citizens had a great time with us and we had a great time with them. We hope to come back soon!
