On Friday, August 9th, from 4pm to 5pm, the Great Neck Branch of AYLUS hosted an AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) event at the Great Neck Public Library. During the event, AYLUS volunteers read AAPI-themed books to young readers and organized various arts and crafts activities.
Yuhao (Henry) Xu, Fanxi Xia, and Kylie Lam read picture books to the children, including “Eyes That Kiss in the Corners,” “Eyes That Weave in the World’s Wonders,” and “I’ll Go and Come Back.” Through these readings, everyone learned about Chinese and Indian cultures. Despite our differences, the event highlighted the uniqueness of each individual.
After the reading, we provided related coloring pages for the children and had volunteers teach them how to make paper flowers and paper cranes. Everyone enjoyed the activities and learned a lot. We also gave out lollipops to each child who attended. Overall, it was a truly happy day, and we want to thank everyone who joined us!
