AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch Tends to the Community Garden (07/06/2024)

The 82nd event was held by AYLUS Oakland Gardens on July 6th. Our members went to the garden to care for the many plants by weeding and watering the flowerbeds. It was a nice day, as the temperature was comfortable and the sun was not too bright.

This garden was grown by students of P.S.390Q, and our mission is to keep the many tomatoes, lettuce, squashes, and other vegetables and flowers healthy. When we arrived, we put on our gloves and got to work. We started off by weeding the flowerbeds, which took some time. We made sure that the roots of the weeds were completely pulled out in order to prevent them from growing again. We then proceeded to water the plants. Buckets of water were filled for members to use to water them, while some others used the hose to provide the water. We were careful not to water too much, otherwise, they may drown.

This event was a good learning experience for our members, as it allowed us to learn about the different plants that grew in our community and how to care for them. Hopefully, the next time we return, the plants and vegetables will have grown bigger and riper.
