On April 20, 2024, members of AYLUS Oyster Bay participated in the Earth Day green initiative at Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center, in honor of Green Day. Similar to last year’s Earth Day, we followed a guide along the trail to observe birds in the woods. Many people used binoculars to spot various bird species, as April’s springtime rejuvenated the surroundings with fresh greenery. Reaching the mountaintop, we could see Long Island Sound in the distance. An hour-long bird walk left everyone feeling uplifted.
Afterward, we began preparing a spring garden around the pond. We loosened the soil, removed weeds, and tidied up the garden to prepare for planting flower beds.
Once again, we celebrated a meaningful Earth Day. This event underscores the importance of environmental stewardship and community engagement in preserving and protecting our planet for future generations.
