On 3/3/24, the members of AYLUS Syosset volunteered at Bethpage Park. We worked with
the workers to clear out a field from all the plants on the ground and cleared larger roots
and plants. We did this to maintain the field to allow for the planting of new plants and allow
the younger ones to grow. There were younger trees there in the field and we used rakes to
clear the leaves, vines, weeds and sticks on the ground into piles and shoveled them into
cars to be taken away. Within 3 hours from (9:30-12:30) AYLUS members cleared the field
and transformed a ground covered with invasive species and dead plant material to clean
topsoil which could be used to allow the current trees to thrive and be able to plant new
trees. We had to dig out many roots and larger weeds to give the young trees more
nutrients from the soil, helping the environment.
