On February 24th, 2024, AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteered at the first annual Lunar New Year celebration Spring Festival event held by Nassau County Executives at Tiles Center in Long Island University. Over the three sessions, our branch members helped out with the event in various ways.
We decorated the main and back rooms with festive decorations during the first session. We helped put up mock red lanterns and banners and sorted the snack situation for the volunteers. We also put up some of the tables for the vendors in place.
During the second session, we mainly helped the vendors set up and further decorated the back of the building near the founder’s room. The decorations consisted of paper with calligraphy taped to the wall over a bench were people ate. We also helped with bringing food to the founder’s room.
During the third session we were ushers in the auditorium helping people find their seats before and during the performance.
In conclusion, this was an incredible experience for us. This event signifies a huge step forward for Chinese cultural representation and appreciation here in Nassau County, for that reason, we are beyond delighted to partake in it as volunteers.
