On February 14th, members of Oakland Gardens Branch sold balloons after school related to Valentine’s Day to support our African Library Project. We made an adequate amount of money to pay for some of our shipping fees. However, we still have to work harder, as we have to cover ALL the delivery fee and shipping costs for this project.
Our goal for 2024 is to donate a “library” to children in Africa. This project aims to send at least 1,000 books (from levels K to 8th grade) to children in poverty-stricken/affected areas in Africa. Our volunteer branch will be responsible for all the shipping costs of these books, and we will additionally donate extra money to Africa because they need this funding to prepare and build a library. Our members work hard and do their best to achieve this goal.
These flowers range from colors such as purple, orange, green, and pink, to more metallic colors such as gold, silver, and bronze. Whenever someone buys a balloon, they are also supporting us in our goal to donate a “library” to children in the more poverty – stricken areas of Africa. Our members held up posters to advertise our goal even more.
Two of our buyers stated that they were from Africa themselves, so they felt the need to support our project. They only had 4 dollars, but we still accepted it for something worth 5 dollars, as we needed all the support we could get. We are very thankful for people such as them in the world! Other people had even gone into the bank to take out money so they could support us, showing how much they wanted to help.
It was very windy that day, and many of our balloons had tried to fly away. Our members had to chase after them to catch them! Since it was Valentine’s Day, there were other sellers selling things like chocolates, teddy bears, and real flowers. One seller gifted our members 2 boxes of chocolate strawberries, to show support in other ways than money! To thank her, we gave her our leftover balloons, so she could sell them and make a gross profit.
We would like to thank everyone supporting us, as it brings us step – by – step closer to our goal!
