On Saturday, 12/9, members of AYLUS Syosset participated in a local coat drive at the Our Lady of Mercy School in Hicksville for the AYLUS Humanities Committee, a charity that takes member’s old and unused coats to donate to those in need. Specifically, AYLUS members donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Long Island cause, which takes donated clothes to Society’s Thrift stores for those who need more affordable clothing options, as the cost of living on Long Island has been growing and families are in need of more affordable alternatives. Members donated old sweaters, jackets and winter coats. Members took advantage of their old clothes that had not been worn in years to donate to this cause instead of throwing them out. According to New York Spectrum News, the organization New York Cares received 200,000 requests for coats for families that are in need during these cold times of the year.
