Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Senior Center ( 36th) ( 11/26/2023)

Reported by Hsin Chen (Julie) Lu

On November 26th, 2023, Murrieta AYLUS members helped out their local senior center, Atria Park of Vintage Hills. Upon arriving, the members signed themselves in before heading to the icecream parlor down the hall. They worked together in serving the customers that came in, one scooping the icecream while the other added toppings. While there weren’t any customers, the members were taught how to make a snowflake from 6 pieces of paper from a staff member. When seniors came in for icecream, the members quickly got up to serve them before going back and continuing to work on the snowflake. When the time came for the icecream parlor to close, the members closed the tubs of icecream, put away the toppings, and wiped down the table. The staff told them they could bring the snowflake home and reminded the members on how to make them before bidding them goodbye.

At Torrey Pines Senior Living : As the volunteers arrived at the tail end of the residents’ exercise, they began with preparing the morning snack. Slicing bananas and spooning fruit into cups, the snacks were taken outside and water was poured. The residents first hydrated then ate, before going on some light walks. Afterwards, the residents read the daily chronicle together, then made a small list of things that reminded them of Christmas. Putting on some light music, the residents took a few more laps around the garden before heading inside to eat lunch.
