On November 19th from 10am to 2pm, the Roslyn AYLUS members helped collect donations to the Island Harvest food bank to provide food for those in need for Thanksgiving.
The Island Harvest food bank serves to provide food for people throughout America. It is one of the largest food organizations and also partners with places such as Stop&Shop and ShopRite. Especially with the coming Thanksgiving, it is important to supply goods to feed people for the happy holidays.
We set up two stations on each side of Stop&Shop to reach more people. Splitting into two groups, we distributed flyers to the shoppers and gave them more information on how they could contribute to support for those who lack food. We collected monetary donations and canned/packaged goods.
We were very successful and grateful to have received so many donations. We collected an overwhelming amount of food, with even 3 large turkeys and 6 hams. We filled approximately 8 shopping carts of goods including stuffings, peanut butter and tons of other cans and packaged foods. We even had to go to the nearest library to print fifty more flyers! Even through this chilly weather we were able to push through and productively help for a greater cause.
Members who participated include:
Adrian Jin (4 hours), Isabelle Tsui (4 hours), Natalie Tsui (4 hours), Serena Wu (4 hours), Jolina Wu (4 hours), Zihan Wang (2 hours), Hunter Chen (2 hours), and Maxim Li (2 hours).
