The Community Kitchens of Birmingham is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides lunch to the hungry 365 days per year. On January 7, in an attempt to give back to the community and help those that need a warm meal, the AYLUS Birmingham Branch volunteered at the Grace Episcopal Church location in Woodlawn, AL. Members helped cook a hot lunch before the doors opened at noon. When everything was ready, volunteers warmly greeted guests, assembled plates of food, poured drinks, and served these to approximately 100 people. After lunch, they helped wrap up plates for guests to take with them, cleaned the area, and helped tidy the kitchen. This was a great experience for AYLUS volunteers to support the more vulnerable members of their community, showing them that a warm, nutritious meal accompanied by friendly faces can be life-changing.
