As a new branch, we spread AYLUS spirit and the mission of “Libraries with Love” project to our local communities, churches, and friends. Many people knew we need as many k-8 books as possible for the kids in Africa. One of our church friends told us that she knew there were thousands of books located in a residential garage. The owner of the books just passed away and his hobby was reading and collecting all kinds of books. His wife wanted to donate these books as soon as possible. However, she couldn’t find any organization that could take so many books. what a coincidence! We really need all the books for Libraries with Love project. Our leader Jenny and Bruce visited the garage located in Plano on Jan 29th, 2023 and roughly estimated there were around three thousands to four thousands of books. Then we planned and scheduled our branch activity of moving and transporting these books over the weekend of Feb 4th to Feb 5th.
On Feb 4th, Dallas area just had a ice storm and it was very cold in the morning. Despite the bad weather, we still gathered together at 10AM and started moving the books. First, we took as many boxes as possible from our families. We worked as a team to put these books into each box. Many of those boxes were quite heavy and it required 3 or 4 of us to move the boxes to our cars. To be honest, there were some bugs in the garage and it was very dusty. However, we didn’t complain it at all as we believed what we did could truly benefit the kids in Africa and they really need these books. Finally, about 2000 books were moved and transported to many team member’s garage by the end the day. We will continue our mission at 10AM on Feb 5th.
