On Sunday from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, the Roslyn AYLUS branch helped out at a school of Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island.
We were sent to different rooms where different different levels of kids (some of us taught K1 and others taught P2) were. We helped distribute stickers when the students answer a question correctly, organized papers and stapled them into two packets, one for classwork and one for homework, and handed those out. At 2:00 pm, we brought the kids to the bathrooms, provided a stepping stool and helped them squeeze soap and rinse with water and dried off their hands. Later on they had a painting session where they tried to make a leopard mask and we helped wipe the paint off desks after they were done. At 4:00 pm, they switched classrooms and each went to their ‘electives’. We guided different students to their different classes: martial arts, singing, dance, arts and crafts, and other outdoor activities. We also helped teach and assist the students in each of these sessions, for one teacher can’t help or attend to twenty kids at once.
