In September, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee continued a new chess tournament along with weekly classes.
On September 10th, 2022, the Chess Club hosted its twenty sixth tournament fundraiser. With more people joining the Chess Club, even more kids have the opportunity to play quality chess against other curious learners.
With the tournament starting, over 110 people joined the club to compete in this week’s tournament. Before the tournament started, there was an informational meeting held on zoom to discuss the rules about the tournament and to introduce AYLUS to the participants that are not familiar with the organization, along with mentioning how to donate to help the community.
The tournament started at 7:10 PM EST with many participants, in an 1 hour swiss style tournament. Many intense games were played with many close games. When the tournament concluded, “Ucbmoving” (4/4 wins, 0 loss, 0 draw) got first place followed by a tie for second with “highlanddragon” (3/4 games) and “Inspire00” (3/4 games). Everyone had fun during this tournament and got the chance to play against a variety of different opponents with different skill levels.
Our Chess Club’s next tournament will be hosted on Saturday, October 1st, starting at 7PM EST. The time control will remain the same (G15+5) and everyone is welcome. All ages can come and compete with their skills and have fun playing games of chess.
GPA Volunteers: Sarah Yan (9/10 2 hrs + Tournament flyer & report 2 hrs), Erick Yan (9/10, 2 hrs), George Chen (9/10, 2 hours), and more.
