On March 14, 2026, AYLUS volunteers went to Robert Moses to assist with stringing fences and picking up pieces of litter scattered across the beach from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM.
Volunteers were driven by groups to the site and immediately began their work. Equipped with litter grabbers, volunteers spread across the beach to collect any garbage that posed potential hazard to the animals inhabiting the area from small bottle caps, to large plastic fragments that might have been left behind or washed ashore. This helped restore the cleanliness of the shoreline protecting the local ecosystem.
At the same time, some volunteers sectioned off and went to help string protective fences along designated areas of the beach. These fences are meant to create restricted zones from the public, keeping them away from nesting grounds. Marking and protecting these spaces ensures that birds can safely nest and raise their young without disturbance.
