Reported by Eric Huang, Hometown Sammamish Youth Action Program – Habitat Restoration Project
On March 7, 2026, members of the AYLUS Lake Washington Branch joined with the City of Sammamish to support a special restoration effort as part of the Evan’s Creek Preserve Expansion Project. Our members assisted in preparing a section of trail scheduled for decommissioning by stabilizing steep areas and planting vegetation to discourage the use of unsafe social trails created by off‑trail foot traffic.
During the three‑hour event, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, members removed invasive species, planted native vegetation in designated restoration zones, and helped clean tools and equipment. Through hands‑on work and collaboration with community members, our members strengthened connection to the environment while gaining practical skills, including the use of tools such as hand pruners and other restoration equipment.
