As Easter approached, members of Aylus Morris Branch partnered with the nonprofit organization Helping Hands to organize a creative and meaningful community service project. The goal of the initiative was to support local families facing food insecurity while celebrating the spirit of generosity and hope that the Easter season represents. Working together, Aylus members planned a special donation activity that combined festive elements with practical community support.
During the project, members assembled approximately 250 Easter eggs as part of the event. Each egg was part of a larger effort to encourage participation and raise awareness about food donations within the community. Along with the Easter-themed activity, the group collected non-perishable canned food items that could be distributed to individuals and families in need. In total, about 30 pounds of non-perishable food was gathered through the initiative. The donated items included canned vegetables, soups, beans, and other shelf-stable foods that are commonly requested by food assistance programs.
Members worked collaboratively to organize and package the collected food so it could be efficiently delivered to the nonprofit partner. The preparation process reflected the teamwork and dedication of the volunteers, who ensured that the items were properly sorted and ready for distribution. The project not only provided practical assistance but also created an opportunity for members to learn about the importance of community outreach and service.
On the afternoon of March 8 at 6:00 PM, Aylus Morris Branch members delivered the donated food items to the Helping Hands distribution center. The organization will include these items in its ongoing efforts to support local residents who rely on community food programs. Through this partnership, Aylus members were able to contribute to a meaningful cause while strengthening connections with local nonprofit organizations. The project highlighted the values of compassion, collaboration, and community engagement, and it demonstrated how youth-led service initiatives can make a positive impact in the community.
