On Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, AYLUS volunteers helped clean up and take apart parts from a robotics competition that was held the day before at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Hempstead. (List of volunteers and times below.) Volunteers started by cleaning up the balls in the arena, taking apart the walls of the robotics arenas, unscrewing the playing field, and removing the puzzle mats. Drinks and breakfast were offered to volunteers for this tiring task. Once the arena was taken apart, we began disassembling the goals and then sorted the mats according to which school owned them (e.g., Farmingdale, Mepham, Manhasset). After that was completed, we dismantled the stage that was supporting the arena, taking apart the platform and its legs, as well as organizing the wires and other parts into boxes. Once we finished packing everything, we transported the heavy boxes into a U-Haul, saving the Aviation Museum workers a significant amount of labor. These volunteers helped the community by allowing unique venues like museums to host competitions that benefit robotics programs and schools across Nassau County, without having to worry about setup or cleanup.
