Members of the Aylus Morris Branch partnered with Connections, a local nonprofit community center, to support early childhood literacy by organizing a book collection drive for young children. Recognizing the importance of reading in the early developmental years, the branch focused specifically on collecting age-appropriate books for children ages 1 to 5. Members worked together to spread awareness within the community, encouraging families and neighbors to donate gently used or new books suitable for toddlers and preschoolers. Through their outreach and coordinated efforts, the branch successfully collected 80 high-quality children’s books, ensuring that each donation was appropriate, safe, and engaging for young readers.
Throughout the project, members took responsibility for sorting and reviewing the donated books to confirm they met age and content guidelines. This process helped them better understand the developmental needs of early learners and the role that literacy plays in cognitive growth, language acquisition, and school readiness. By carefully selecting and organizing the books, members ensured that the final donation would make a meaningful and practical impact for the children served by Connections.
On February 17 at 4:00 PM, branch members personally delivered all 80 books to the Connections collection site. During the drop-off, they learned more about the organization’s mission to support families and strengthen the local community through educational and social programs. This initiative not only provided tangible resources to children in need but also reinforced the branch’s commitment to service, education, and community engagement.
Through teamwork, planning, and community outreach, the Aylus Morris Branch demonstrated how small, focused initiatives can create lasting positive effects. By promoting early literacy and supporting a local nonprofit, members helped build a stronger foundation for the youngest members of their community while strengthening their own leadership and service skills.
