Weekend Speech & Debate Coaching
AYLUS Gainesville Branch — February 15, 2026
The AYLUS Gainesville Branch organized its Weekend Speech & Debate Coaching Program
at Oaks Hall School on Sunday, February 15, 2026, as part of the Huagen Chinese School
weekend program open to all community members. Volunteers Jalen Zheng, Mia Yu, and
Michael Huan each contributed 1 hour of free volunteer service — of in-person coaching
services. During this session, the volunteers provided hands-on instruction for students
ranging from 3rd grade to high school, introducing them to the fundamentals of debate,
speech structure, and persuasive communication. The coaches guided participants through
speaking drills, case organization, and teamwork exercises designed to strengthen
confidence and critical thinking.
Each volunteer spent 1 hour coaching students during the AYLUS Gainesville Weekend
Speech & Debate Program at Oaks Hall School. Preparation time was directly related to the
teaching content and considered part of the volunteer service.
By sharing their experiences as competitive debaters and youth leaders, the volunteers
helped inspire younger students to express their ideas clearly and respectfully. This weekly
program continues to promote leadership, logic, and civic engagement — key values of the
AYLUS mission — while enriching Gainesville’s educational community.

Volunteers:
● Jalen Zheng — 1 hour (1 hr coaching)
