AYLUS Roslyn helps out at a School of CCA of Long Island (96) on February 8th, 2026

On February 8th, 2026, the volunteers of the AYLUS Roslyn branch served as teacher assistants for the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Our jobs as volunteers in the Chinese school were to help teachers and students in various activities and tasks.

As teacher assistants, we ease the teacher’s responsibilities while creating a fun, engaging learning environment. To begin the class, we started by greeting the teacher and children and helping them get set up for class. We did tasks such as answering questions, distributing and collecting worksheets, taking children to the restroom, and assisting the teacher with their lesson. Instead of having culture classes today, we had a speech contest. Some students took the stage in the auditorium to present their speeches. At the end of the day, TAs helped students pack up their belongings and ensured they were brought to their parents or guardians.

Overall, having the duties of a TA gave us insights into what difficulties teachers handle every day. While the tasks that were given to the TA’s were simple, it still relieved the stress of the teachers and increased fun and engaging learning experience for the students. Volunteering at the school helped us develop patience and compassion for young children, allowing us to create a welcoming and positive environment for the children.
