On Saturday, January 10th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the Newtown Branch helped
open and sort packages for United Way.
There were boxes upon boxes, and it was our job to open them, sort its contents, and
throw away any packaging waste. Piles of boxes means piles of waste. However we took care of
that, with multiple trash cans and bins for cardboard we made sure to clean up and not litter the
United Way facility. Not everything was smooth sailing at first, we were in disarray with the
sorting due to the large facility. However each of us began to memorize where specific sections
were, and through communication we’d ask each other “where does this go”, then someone else
would know, and take it for them. At the end of the event we felt that we didn’t do much, but
then we turned to what once was a huge pile of boxes to empty space. A huge blast of shock hit
us. We were so happy but not because of seeing how all the boxes moved, but because of how
much it’ll help people in need. This event had truly helped us learn teamwork as it was essential
to our efficiency and how much impact we can truly make.
