On Sunday, January 11, from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteered at the Long Island Chinese School as teacher’s aides. Volunteers first signed in what time they arrived at the front desk, then went to the rooms they were assigned to assist the teachers in various tasks such as passing out assignments and grading homework. With the help of the volunteers, the teachers could more effectively teach their students while delegating less essential tasks to volunteers.
Afterwards, volunteers went to help in the intermediate level elective chess classes, where they kept students quiet and focused. Volunteers spread out and set up the chessboards when it was time for the students to play games, then made sure there were no illegal moves made.
Volunteers: Jake Wu and Jonathan Fan
