AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch visits Forest View Center to Give the Elderly a Concert (12/29/2025)

On Monday, December 29, 2025, AYLUS Oakland Gardens members visited Forest View Center to put on a concert for the seniors there from 1:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. as their 211th event. Our members used a wide variety of instruments, ranging from cellos to pianos, from accordions to flutes. The elderly living there enjoyed this array of songs very much.

Our first performers played Royal Fireworks by Handel and Carmen by G. Bizet on the flute, viola, and the cello. The seniors at this center seemed to enjoy these songs a lot, as it provoked a voracious round of applause from them. Our next song was Etude by F. Chopin, Minuet in G by J.S. Bach, and Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid by A. Menken. These songs were played on the piano by our youngest member, Selina You. She was extremely nervous to be performing in front of such a large crowd, but she was encouraged by the audience. When she finished with these three songs, she was rewarded with another large round of applause. After her, Iokting Lin played Hungarian Dance No.5 by J. Brahms on the piano. She had just started second grade a while ago, and was greeted with a similar response as Selina. Once Iokting was finished with her song, VIcki Lin entered the stage. She took out her trumpet and started playing Fly Me to the Moon and Last Christmas. This was a sudden change in instrument, but the seniors loved it nonetheless. Ryan Song and Paxton Xu started to play Dreidel Dreidel, Jingle Bells, and Silver Bell on the accordions together once Vicki was done. Next up, Iokting came back to play Poeme Petit by J.C. Lewallen, this time on the flute. The seniors loved her once more, and gave an even louder round of applause. Rachel Song, younger sister of Ryan Song, then went on-stage to play Arabesque on the piano. Rachel finished her song and was quickly followed up by Ricky Song. He used his guitar to play The Entertainer. The elderly enjoyed this song, providing a loud round of applause. Sophia You, one of our four committee chairs, played Annie Laurie by Lady Scott and Cradle Song by J. Brahms on the flute. Sophia has spent a long time perfecting these songs, and it showed when she performed. Paxton then returned to play A Holly Jolly Christmas on the piano. The seniors were surprised that he knew two very hard instruments to learn. Stephanie then came back to play Toccata Festivo on the piano before Ricky played Eine Kleine Nachtmusik on the violin, which is a very hard song to play. Trazy Zhang then played Valse en la Mineur on the flute. To finish the concert, Jason Liu took the stage and played Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and Lonely Christmas on the piano. The seniors were absolutely flabbergasted, as he played both songs from memory. These songs are also extremely complicated.

The seniors at the concert enjoyed it very much. Some even went up to our members personally and thanked them for performing for them. They claimed that they loved it and would like us to come back another day. One of them even asked for a business card! We would like to thank the manager of Forest View Center for allowing us to perform there and the seniors for listening to our members perform their instruments.
