Murrieta AYLUS Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity Senior House Preservation #50 (12/06/2025)

Reported by Jessica Lu

On 12/6/25, Murrieta AYLUS members helped ABWK house project.

The project focuses on helping senior homeowners by painting and refreshing their homes.

The main goal of the project is to support seniors who may not be physically or financially able to maintain their homes on their own. Volunteers help paint exterior or interior areas of senior homes, improving safety, cleanliness, and overall living conditions. This also helps protect homes from weather damage and creates a more comfortable and welcoming environment for the residents.

Through this project, volunteers gain hands-on service experience while making a meaningful impact in the community. It emphasizes teamwork, compassion, and giving back by assisting seniors in maintaining safe and dignified homes.

Members began by taping the windows and setting down tarps to ensure the paint wouldn’t touch the windows or floors. After the morning safety announcement, members went around the house to choose their area to paint, with some choosing to go on ladders to help. Members made sure to watch their paint to make sure no drips occurred. Halfway through, everyone took a mandatory break and enjoyed the sun and snacks together. When they finished, they walked around the house for a final check before putting away their supplies and saying goodbye.
