On Sunday November 23, from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteered at the Long Island Chinese School as teaching assistants. Volunteers signed in at the front table, after which they then went to their assigned rooms to help the teachers with tasks like grading homework. With volunteers helping, teachers could teach the students with less distraction, not needing to focus on grading homework or other tasks. Afterwards, volunteers also helped in the elective intermediate level chess class, where the volunteers kept the students focused and made sure they weren’t distracted. Volunteers set up the chess boards for the students for their tournament games, confirming that pieces were set up properly and no illegal moves were made.
Because of the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteers, students at the Long Island Chinese School had a more productive experience, and teachers had an easier time teaching students.
Volunteers: Jonathan Fan, Jake Wu
