On Sunday, November 2nd 2025, The AYLUS Roslyn branch volunteered and partnered with the AHRC Foundation for their yearly AHRC Foundation Walk located at Eisenhower Park from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The AHRC Foundation Walk assists in bringing together children and adults with developmental disabilities and their community for a day of celebration and support. The purpose of their annual Foundation Walk is to raise funds and awareness for the foundation, allowing it to support organizations that serve individuals with developmental disabilities. This year’s goal was to raise $100,000. As volunteers, our job was to manage the face painting booth, where face paint, stencils, and temporary tattoos were offered.
When we first arrived, we were assigned to move the tables in a horizontal position designated to where the food would be located. The foods offered during this event were bagels, different kinds of muffins, water, apples, and utensils. After preparing the food and laying them on the table, we had to set up the face painting booth. The supplies we used were paint brushes, face paint, glitter, glue, stencils, and temporary tattoos. We were able to test these products on each other since not many of us have the skills for this task. This was not too challenging as most of us eventually got the hang of things in a short amount of time. We would offer the guests by asking them if they would want a temporary tattoo, stencil, or face painting. We would then ask where they would like it on, their face or arm. For a stencil, we would place their desired design on them and then apply the glue for the glitter of their choice to stick onto their skin. This was a great learning experience for us as it showed how practice makes perfect and is worth the reaction of the guests in the end.
This was a great learning experience for us, as it showed that practice makes perfect and that the guests’ happy reactions made all our effort worthwhile. As a branch, we reflected on this experience and realized that helping out with even small things can make someone’s day much brighter.
