In the US alone, it is estimated that around 300 million pairs of shoes are discarded each year. The global number of people lacking access to shoes is reported to around 600 million.
We partnered with Cal Martial Hearts, a neighboring volunteer organization, to participate in the Used Sneaker Drive. By October 31, our AYLUS San Diego Branch volunteers donated more than 60 pairs of used sneakers. Together, we will send the sneakers to Got Sneakers, an organization that will clean, sort, and distribute them to people in need. On Nov. 1, we drop the shoes at Hong Wu Golden Dragon Academy.
There are 18 AYLUS San Diego Branch members that participated in this used sneakers drive event.
